Anyone teaching AI risk needs three things: a method that can be conveyed in one session, material with documented sources, and a tool students can open themselves without sign-up and without cost. The Community Edition is licensed for exactly this and is the complete application, not a cut-down demonstration version.
For research, traceability is what counts. The catalogue holds 486 mappings from 21 primary sources, each with title, publisher, version and licence. Every threat page and every term page carries a suggested citation, and the addresses of the entries do not change.
The Community Edition is intended for education, teaching, academic research and the statutory work of non-profit bodies, as long as the use stays non-commercial.

Yes. The licence expressly names education, teaching and academic research as permitted uses, as long as they stay non-commercial. Students open the Community Edition in the browser, without installation and without a user account. Minors may use it as part of a use arranged by the educational institution.
Public core funding, earmarked research funding and donations do not by themselves make the use commercial. Contract research, by contrast, is not covered, nor is a paid service commitment or a concrete benefit to a commercial company. Anyone working in such a project needs the commercial edition.
Every threat page and every term page carries a ready-made suggested citation at the end, with title, work, version and address. The addresses are permanent and do not change. The catalogue version and legal status appear on every page, so that it remains visible later which state a piece of work was based on.
From 21 primary sources across seven frameworks. The source directory names title, publisher, version and licence for each document, and every mapping points to the reference within it. The evidence-base analysis shows for each threat how many references it carries; entries with a single reference are identifiable as such.
The licence permits the non-commercial sharing of your own reports produced with the Community Edition. Reports from the free edition carry a watermark. For a seminar paper, a thesis or a publication without commercial purpose that is sufficient.
Yes. A tax-privileged body under sections 51 and following of the German fiscal code, that is a non-profit company, association or foundation, falls under the exception despite its legal form, but only for its non-commercial, statutory activities. Comparable foreign organisations are included.
The content rests on Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, in force since 27 July 2026. It postponed deadlines and added two prohibitions. Many teaching materials still in circulation quote the earlier dates; the timeline calculates the eight dates against today.
Yes. The application and the knowledge base are available in German and English throughout, including the 52 threats, the 62 obligations and the 28 defined terms. The legal basis is European anyway: the English text of the regulation is an equally authentic language version, not a translation.
Any use serving a business, self-employed, professional or profit-oriented activity, including indirectly. Contract research, for-profit educational institutions and general public administration activity do not fall under the exception. For those cases the commercial editions exist.
